KUCHING: Sarawak Lorry Transport Association (SLTA) is disappointed that the prices of petrol and diesel is only reduced by 10 sen to RM2.45 for petrol and RM2.40 for diesel per litre.
The association said such adjustment did not help ease the burden of the industry players.
Its president Jong Foh Jit said the reduction of the price of petrol did not meet the call of the majority, which was to restore the petrol and diesel prices before the drastic hike announced on June 4.
“The 10 sen reduction is not going to help us anyway because the hike for diesel was RM1. We always hope that the government can place the people’s interest above all,??? he said in a press statement here yesterday.
Jong pointed out this was another letdown, following the first adjustment of petrol and diesel prices to go down by eight sen and 15 sen respectively on Aug 23.
“These little adjustments do not help overcome the difficulties we are facing. Reasonable reduction should be considered particularly when the global oil price has gone down,??? he said.
He hoped the government would review the petrol price ‘to really bring relief to the people’.
Meanwhile, he said the recent announcement by the Road Transport Department that lorries would not be allowed to operate two days before and after the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri did not affect Sarawak’s operators.
“The announcement did not apply to Sarawak so lorry drivers here can work as usual,??? he said.
