PETALING JAYA: The venue for the rally planned by the Coalition Against Inflation (Protes) to speak out against the recent fuel price hike has been changed to Stadium Kelana Jaya instead of Padang Timur here.
In a joint press statement issued with Pakatan Rakyat, it said the gathering scheduled tomorrow would be held at the stadium from 10am till midnight.
“Protes agrees with the suggestion and we call on Malaysians who support the movement for a just and transparent government to join the peaceful gathering.
“Malaysians must not be influenced by outside provocation,??? the statement jointly issued by PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, PAS secretary-general Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar and PKR secretary-general Datuk Salehudin Hashim stated.
Selangor CPO Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said on Thursday the public should stay away from the rally as no permit had been sought for it.
He said he had asked Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim on Tuesday to shift the rally to a better location for public safety.
DCP Khalid said police had no qualms about the rally being held in the stadium as it would not pose any problem to the public.
“I would like to advise the organisers to adhere to the rules and regulations and not do or say an anything that is sensitive, racial or seditious in nature.
“We will be there and if we find they have strayed, then we will not hesitate to take action,??? he said yesterday.
