Introduction

I am writing this because I have not forsaken my friends, some of whom are within the inner circle of power in UMNO. I shall not name them. They know who they are. We have known each other before their UMNO days. To me, they are human beings first and politicians second. We are all subjects of a set of higher moral law, which, unlike the man made laws, cannot be changed or altered. Which, unlike the man made laws, reside somewhere within the recesses of our mind and will not go away, no matter how hard we try to ignore them, no matter how many times we have walked away from them. Although to a certain extent we cannot deny that we are what we are because of UMNO, I would prefer to say that I am what I am in spite of UMNO. This post is dedicated to them.

Perak palace will take some convincing

KUALA LUMPUR, March 4 – The Perak crisis is far from over although – against all odds and without precedent – the ousted Pakatan Rakyat state government held an “under the tree??? emergency assembly Tuesday and approved motions to dissolve the legislature.

It is a moral victory and a signal of their determination not to accept defeat or let the Barisan Nasional (BN) rule in peace in a state PR had ruled for 10 months from March 2008.

Section 124 of the Penal Code reads as follows:

“Whoever, with the intention of inducing or compelling or attempting to induce or compel a member of Parliament or of any legislative assembly or of any state executive council to exercise or refrain from exercising in any manner the lawful powers of such member, assaults or wrongfully restrains, or attempts wrongfully to restrain, or overawes by means of criminal force, or the show of criminal force, or attempts so to overawe, such member shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to a fine.”

The Prime Minister has declared that the anticipated power transition to Datuk Seri Najib Razak will occur as planned. The media has reported this and other news items pertaining to the subject as a transition of Prime Ministers. If this is in fact what the Prime Minister has proclaimed, and it is not apparent whether the Prime Minister had limited his remarks to the transition of the UMNO presidency, then it calls for a re-examination of the way in which governments are formed under the Federal Constitution.

A rather intriguing headline from The Malaysian Insider caught Walski’s attention earlier today.

“Singapore not in dire straits, says PM Lee”

Unlike what we’ve hearing from our own leaders, Singapore’s PM, while acknowledging that things are bad, does it in a way that isn’t insulting to one’s intelligence. A stark contrast from the “Semua OK, Semua OK” statements in the last 3-4 months followed by “Alamak! AlamakI” panic stations right about now.

And technically, PM Lee Hsien Loong is absolutely right – geographically, Singapore is not in dire straits. It is actually at the end of the Malacca Straits. Or maybe even stating that it’s in the Tebrau Straits might be half-way correct.

KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 2 – The MP for Ipoh-Barat, M. Kula Segaran, sys that the Perak Assembly Speaker has the right to decide where to hold the emergency meeting tomorrow.

“The place of assembly is up to the speaker to interpret,??? Kula Segaran said, quoting from the Perak Assembly Standing Orders Nos. 10, 11, 89 and 90, which describe the sessions of assembly.
