Zaid blogs… Rais blocks

Blogger vs. Blocker.

Zaid Ibrahim started blogging yesterday at myzaidibrahim.wordpress.com.

In the entry titled: Hulubalang Utama Dato Najib, he challenged the PM to stop talking to different audiences in different languages.

Instead, he said, Najib should articulate his economic reforms in the upcoming Umno special assembly, or in Malay-language newspapers, rather than speaking selectively in the English media.

Court of Appeal judgment is a flop

The pain was acute and deep when the verdict came, despite it being widely anticipated.  The complete silence that greeted the Court of Appeal decision in favour of Zambry Kadir – in contrast to the uncontrollable jubilation that hailed the high court declaration of Nizar Jamaluddin as the lawful Menteri Besar only 10 days ago – spoke for itself.  I believe the disappointment and suppressed fury prevailing in the court room this time was reflective of the feelings invoked across the nation when Justice Raus Shariff delivered the 5-minute oral judgment that marked a new low in our judiciary on May 22.

Malaysian Courts: Going Super Fast

Allow me to share a quote of wisdom : ‘Though the wheels of justice grind slowly, yet they grind exceeding small; Though with patience he stands waiting, with exactness grinds he all’.

I have read that there was a case of medical negligence, and involving the death of a lawyer, which took 23 years to reach our Court of Appeal. Yet these slow grinding wheels seem to have become supercharged for the benefit of Zambry Abd Kadir.

When the High Court on May 11 recognised Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin as the rightful Menteri Besar of Perak, the Court of Appeal lost no time in granting Zambry a stay of execution on the High Court decision. It did so within a few hours, in fact.

Editors should confirm or deny Dr M’s allegation of self-censorship

Who Should the Finger of Blame Be Pointed Towards

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad claims that actually it is the Press who self-censor. This allegation – repeated several times – was perhaps the most startling revelation made by the ex-premier in his speech at the Bloggers Universe Malaysia (BUM) dialogue in Subang Jaya on May 16, 2009.

The Ancient Mariner on PKFZ: Day of Reckoning

http://cyusof.blogspot.com/2009/05/pkfz-day-of-reckoning.html

My sources tell me that Lim Thean Shiang (photo), the young general manager of Klang Port Authority (KPA) who took over from the controversial O.C. Phang barely a year ago, has tendered his resignation to the KPA board. A lawyer by training, Lim is also executive chairman of KPA subsidiary Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) Sdn Bhd. But unlike former transport minister Chan Kong Choy, I bet his hasty departure cannot be because of “health reasons” but certainly over the RM12 billion PKFZ scandal which has necessitated a government bailout.

Do you know why the Federal Court is not giving a written judgment in the Perak debacle? (Updated)

The answer can be simply put. It is because Article 72 (1) of the Federal Constitution is written in unambiguous language which even a child can understand. As I have said before in an earlier article that the words, “The validity of any proceedings in the Legislative Assembly of any State shall not be questioned in any court???, mean what they say. Nothing can be plainer than that. No one in his right senses would try to interpret the obvious meaning of the words in Article 72, unless he wants to say the words mean something else. But the Federal Court was not prepared to do that. And the reason is because they do not want to be known as Humpty Dumpty judges.

Freedom of Information: A Right to Reclaim

SELANGOR WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY

“Freedom of Information: A Right to Reclaim???

by Dr. Lim Teck Ghee, Director Centre for Policy Initiatives

   1. FOI is a collective responsibility but the state plays the major role in nurturing it. Whether FOI is opened up or is shut down is very much dependent on who holds the levers of political power in the state and whether that power is exercised democratically or otherwise..

Wahai Najib, bebaskanlah media!

Read more
